For this project, I've opted to use a Commando 750 Triple Tree/Yoke. I'm a fan of their design, and since I'll be using a Commando front end, I figured I might as well go all out. I thought it would be a straightforward fit, but of course, it wasn't.

I swapped out the old bearings with new sealed ones and spruced up an old 750 yoke. After installing the bottom bearing and test fitting the bearing spacer, I realized it was too short. After scratching my head for a bit and doing some research, I found out about RGM's special spacer(LINK) that converts Dominator steering head bearings to Commando type. So, I went ahead and bought that.

Jumping ahead a week, I finally got the yoke I was waiting for and tried to install it. But no luck! The top of the yoke with the stem went in fine, but there was no thread below for the nut to go onto when I tried to install the bottom yoke. Cue more head-scratching.

After some pondering, I realized I need to trim about 7mm off the top of the bottom yoke because on the Commando, the bottom bearing sits deeper into the headstock. This way, I'll have enough space to tighten the nut. I called up Norton expert Ken McIntosh and asked if he could help with this, and he said sure, no problem. So I swung by his place, had a great chat about Nortons and other British bikes, and left the yoke with him to work his magic.
